The Languedoc region is unrivalled for its richness. It is a nature lover's paradise with beautiful and peaceful surroundings, pretty market towns and the Mediterranean coastline with child-friendly sandy beaches.

There are miles of sandy mediterranean beaches to be enjoyed, the nearest is about 50 minutes drive although there is a river beach 20 minutes away in Roquebrun. The more developed beaches offer plenty of choice of cafés and restaurants, boat trips and outdoor concerts on the beach throughout the summer. For water lovers there are a variety of watersports at the Lac de Salagou and no trip to Beziers would be complete without taking in some stretch of the very pretty ‘Canal du Midi’. Join a boat trip heading for the oyster beds at Sete or the famous Neuf Ecluses.

The pretty market towns of Castres and Pezenas, the cosmopolitan shops of Montpellier, the unmissable ancient City of Carcassonne and coastal towns specialising in seafood dishes from the morning catch all have plenty to offer.

Superb wine-tasting is all around – this is the largest wine-producing area in France, and the region is carpeted with vineyards. The delicious local wines, now becoming increasingly acknowledged outside France, are still extremely cheap. An afternoon wine-tasting at one of the many chateaux and domaines on the Route des Vins is a hard outing to better for pure enjoyment. The most famous locally, St Chinian and Faugeres are just a 20 minutes drive. St Chinian also hosts a large traditional market on Sunday mornings.

Why not come and see for yourself why this rich, unspoilt region remains one of France's best kept secrets.

Some other things to do in the area:
- The pretty perched village of Roquebrun is just 20 minutes drive where you will find a great river beach to enjoy, as well as the Mediterranean Garden, canoeing/kayaking and some very enjoyable wine tasting at the village cave. Try further wine tasting on the Route des Vins within the St. Chinian and Faugeres appellations.
- Children will love Aqualand and Toonland at the coastal resort of Cap D'Agde or drive out to the famous Millau bridge so they can show some amazing photos to their friends.
- Golfers can enjoy the 9 hole course at Lamalou-les-Bains – non-members welcome (10 minutes drive) or the 18 hole courses at Montpellier. Also at Lamalou there are excellent  all weather tennis courts, a casino, and the famous thermal baths from which the town takes its name.
- Have a day on the beach at Marseillan Plage followed by a tour and tasting at the Noilly Prat Distillery (the local version of Martini) and dinner in pretty Marseillan Port.
