The village of Mons nestled at the foot of the Caroux mountains
| The village
It takes just over 5 minutes to walk to the friendly village centre of Mons La Trivalle where amenities include bakery, butcher, small supermarket, wine cave, auberge café-bar, bike hire (in Summer), restaurant, tabac, small childrens playground, post office, pony and donkey walks, takeaway pizzeria and small tourist information office. Take a stroll up the hill behind the auberge up to the old village of Mons and wander the old stone streets, visit the church and admire the great views over the valley. Equally, access to the Gorges d'Heric and
Caroux mountains is another 5 minute stroll, follow the lane through Le
Verdier Haut. Here you can enjoy hiking, rock climbing, swimming in the
freshwater rock pools of the Gorges d'Heric, rambling, bird and nature
watching, mountain biking, or gentle picnics by the river edge. Less steady
walkers and those with pushcairs can get to the hamlet of Heric (about
2 hours walk) on a sloped path. Whilst you're there, keep your eyes out
for the shy mouton.
